Bangladesh Blocks Fa cebook over Blasphemy, DHAKA: Bangladesh has blocked social networking site Facebook for posting caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him) and “obnoxious” images of the Muslim-majority country’s leaders, an official said Sunday. Facebook was blocked late Saturday, the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission said. The move was ordered after the website “hurt the religious sentiments of the country’s majority Muslim population” by publishing caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him), BTRC acting chairman Hasan Mahmud Delwar said.

MANILA : Bird flu outbreaks that have killed seven people in several countries so far this year show the virus remains a threat to humans, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said on Wednesday. “The newly confirmed human and poultry cases of avian influenza this year are a reminder that the virus poses a real and continuous threat to human health,” the WHO said in a statement. One danger is that bird flu, also known as H5N1, may mutate, warned Takeshia Sakai, the WHO’s regional adviser for communicable diseases.
