smu mustangsDALLAS (SMU) - SMU’s June Jones has been named Conference USA Coach of the Year by The Sporting News, the news outlet announced today. This award marks the fourth Conference Coach of the Year Award for Jones in his 11 seasons as a head coach. Jones has also previously won three National Coach of the Year Awards. This season, Jones has led SMU to a 7-5 record and a Sheraton Hawaii Bowl berth. The record marks the largest turnaround in the nation in 2009 (+6 wins) and the bowl berth is SMU’s first in 25 years. In C-USA play, Jones guided SMU to a 6-2 record and a share of the C-USA Western Division Championship. SMU also handed league champion East Carolina its only loss in conference play.

Jones will lead the Mustangs against Nevada in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl on Dec. 24 at 7 p.m. CT.
